Exsultet

Several deacons have requested an example of the singing of the Exsultet, that wonderful song entrusted to the deacon at the Easter Vigil liturgy.

There are many different musical settings. I use the simple chant setting that is in the Sacramentary on pages 175-181. The setting is just a little too high for me to sing comfortably without accompaniment so I sing it two whole steps down, starting on E instead of G. On page 176 there are 3 responses for the people that you may practice with the music ministry people so they can effectively lead the response. On page 180, the first two lines, marked "Short form only" are skipped as are the similarly marked lines 3 and 4 on page 181.

Because I have had a few questions about this, I grant full permission for any use of this mp3. You may download it and listen to it on any media or player.

Here is an mp3 version (4M) of the Exsultet. If you have any questions about this, email me at cac@stisidorestow.org.
